Real sovereignty of Belarus hinges on the solution of the resources supply issue, and on the use of alternative fuels and energy sources, president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said 26 January during a ceremony of conferring doctor of sciences diplomas and professor certificates on professionals in science and education.
“Today, as never before, our country needs science. You know how urgent the problems of resources supply, search for alternative fuels and energy sources have become lately. The meeting of the targets of the current five-year socio-economic development program as well as real sovereignty of our country depends on how well these problems will be settled,” the head of state said.
Scientists are to play the leading role in the solving of the issues connected with the search for alternative fuels and energy sources, the president said.
However, there is no crisis situation in Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko added. “Over the last years the country has accumulated a strong economic potential. Our industry has enough resources to cope with the new environment. Of course, it would require new approaches and a significant improvement of efficiency of all work. This requirement concerns science too,” the president said.
