Alexander Lukashenko becomes candidate for presidency

Alexander Lukashenko has been registered a candidate for the presidency in Belarus. He received the appropriate ID card on February 17 at a meeting of the central election commission of the Republic of Belarus, the president’s press-service told BelTA. According to CEC member Nadezhda Kiselyova, some 1 million 903 thousand and 93 signatures of the Belarusian citizens have been collected in support of Alexander Lukashenko. Alexander Lukashenko has pointed out that the present-day election campaign in Belarus is strictly in line with the legislation of the republic. According to him, this is what features Belarus against the background of other regions of the planet where election campaigns often lead to turmoil in the society. “I am confident that on March 19 Belarus will repeatedly demonstrate to the world community the openness and coherence of its policy. We orient ourselves first of all towards the prosperity and flourishing of our Motherland”, the Belarusian leader said. Alexander Lukashenko congratulated all registered presidential contenders and welcomed Belarusian and foreign observers. All necessary conditions will be created for their effective work. The president expressed special gratitude to the Belarusian citizens, who gave him a vote of confidence by signing the lists in his support. Alexander Lukashenko is convinced that the upcoming presidential elections will become another step to strengthen the Belarusian statehood. “The Belarusian people will be electing their president by themselves, without any pressure from outside, in compliance with the Belarusian constitution. I, as the incumbent head of state, guarantee this”, he stressed. The president thanked the members of the territorial election commissions and chairperson of the central election commission Lidia Yermoshina for the high level of organization of the election process and well-coordinated work. He also noted that both the central and local authorities, as it is envisaged in the legislation, will render necessary support to the election commissions for the most important political campaign to go without any violations.
