Gomel universities, Russian universities expand cooperation

GOMEL, 28 September (BelTA) – Higher education and science institutions of Gomel Oblast are busy expanding cooperation with research centers and universities in Russia. Results of the work were mentioned by Gomel Oblast Governor Gennady Solovei during the panel session held as part of the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia on 28 September to discuss education as the foundation of historical memory and further integration development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.
The Gomel Oblast governor praised cooperation of Gomel Oblast universities with various research centers in Russia. In particular, he mentioned manufacturing cooperation between Gomel Oblast universities and enterprises in Russian regions that results in the delivery of proprietary products. For instance, the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University has worked out over 100 various adhesive compounds that contain medications for the M. K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University. A contract between the Gomel university and the Bryansk-based company Gruppa Kremny EL on supplying polishing suspension is useful from the point of view of science and is economically profitable.
Another Gomel-based university – the Belarusian State University of Transport (BelGUT) – is certified for testing railway products and services. It closely cooperates with 26 test labs in Belarus and Russia. The university's railway transport test center is accredited by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and offers all kinds of services for testing new and upgraded railway cars and other specialized kinds of equipment and vehicles. A total of 80 international contracts were executed last year.
Every year the Metal-Polymer Systems Mechanics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus implements over 15 contracts on the development of technologies and on supplying metal-polymer materials and products with Russian industrial organizations. The largest ones are located in Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Kirovsk Oblast, Chelyabinsk Oblast, Samara Oblast, and Bashkortostan.
The Sukhoi State Technical University of Gomel is interested in cooperation with the Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University and the Perm National Research Polytechnic University within the framework of R&D programs of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Among other things the programs focus on computer design of processes for manufacturing parts of gas-turbine engines for aviation applications and ground applications.
The governor added: “We've approached the Murmansk Arctic State University with proposals on cooperation in the development of structural systems and control systems for walking robots for operation in low-temperature environments.”
On the whole, Gomel scientific and educational institutions implement from 20 to 50 agreements and contracts every year. The documents provide for pooling efforts to carry out planned R&D work, for implementing joint research projects, the official said.
According to Gennady Solovei, the high personnel potential, solid scientific and physical infrastructure of Gomel Oblast-based higher education institutions allow tackling most complicated tasks, including of applied nature for the benefit of social and economic development of Belarusian and Russian regions. Gennady Solovei is convinced that cooperation will continue developing. “We have a common goal – to make our society prosperous and to make our future happy,” he concluded.
