Gomel Governor urges to improve quality of goods

GOMEL, 29 January (BelTA) – The main goal of the economy of the Gomel oblast in 2010 is to improve the quality of the goods produced in the region, Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Alexander Yakobson told reporters in Gomel on 29 January. During the Year of Quality, the region intends to tighten control over the quality of goods. It will enhance the prestige of Belarus in the world as 74% of the goods produced in the Gomel oblast are exported, the Governor underscored. According to Alexander Yakobson, the quality determines the level of development of a company. Some 269 organizations of the Gomel oblast including 53 municipal enterprises have introduced the quality management systems in conformity with the international standards ISO 9000. In 2009, the share of the new products made up 15% of the total production. This performance meets the national level. The amount of financing of the measures aimed at improving goods’ competitiveness within the framework of the Quality Program for 2008-2010 made up around Br22 billion.
