This year there will be about 85,000 first-year students in Belarusian universities, BelTA learnt from First Deputy Education Minister of Belarus Alexander Zhuk. He has noted that 43 state-run and 10 private universities were offering courses in 350 fields and 1,000 majors.
State-run universities will enroll 75,300 students (0.8% down as against 2006), including 42,500 full-time students (1.3% down). This year there will be 30,800 state-funded student places in state universities (1.4% down). Private universities will enroll over 9,000 students.
Alexander Zhuk has noted that 23 universities increased the number of student places in such fields as construction, engineering, medicine and biology. As did all other universities offering courses in such majors as “Industrial and Civil Construction”, “Geodesy”, “Technology of Motor Engineering”, “Trade Equipment and Technologies”, “Vacuum and Compressor Equipment”, “Architectural Design”.
