President: Belarus is not willing to exchange its independence and sovereignty for gas and oil price

The fundamental position of Belarus in its dialogue with Russia will be preservation of the status quo: Belarus is a sovereign and independent state, the president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said today while meeting with heads of major Belarusian mass media companies. ‘We are not willing to exchange our independence and sovereignty for any kind of price for gas and oil,’ he emphasized. The recent ‘blow from the East’ has not affected the intensity of bilateral contacts, the president said. ‘Don’t think there is no dialogue with Russia. It is very intensive. The work is carried out with regard to problems to be solved by the presidents. Neither on my part, nor on the part of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin there is any sort of hostility or that we refuse to hold such meetings,’ Alexander Lukashenko said. There is quite a few problems for the presidents of the two countries to address, he said. This is why bilateral meetings that there will be in the future will be prepared very scrupulously and decisions taken during such meetings are to be consolidated by international legal acts.
