Nikolai Bordiuzha: Belarus presidency most effective in CSTO history

The ten months the Republic of Belarus presided over the Collective Security Treaty Organisation was the most effective period in the organisation’s entire history, CSTO secretary general Nikolai Bordiuzha said in Minsk on April 9. In his words, last year the organisation held a lot of significant events of military nature, shaped a legal base for a successful fight against illegal drugs business, managed to settle several important problems related to the collective security of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and other CSTO member-states. Nikolai Bordiuzha, who had arrived in Minsk today on a visit, said he intends to inform the Belarusian president, who is the CSTO incumbent chairman, about preparations for a session of the Collective Security Council, which is scheduled to take place in Moscow in June-July 2007. Nikolai Bordiuzha will also meet with the state secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, the defence minister, heads of other power-wielding agencies. According to the CSTO secretary general, in particular, during the meetings the situation in Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan will be discussed.
