In the future Belarus may purchase the Russian surface-to-air missile system S-400 Triumph, BelTA was told by chairman of the State Military-Industrial Committee of Belarus Nikolai Azamatov.
According to him, Belarus’ Armed Forces show interest in the new system as it was added to the arsenal of the anti-aircraft troops of the Russian Federation. Besides, its technical specifications were considerably improved compared to S-300 systems.
“The Russian side may start exporting S-400s in 2009,” Nikolai Azamatov noted. “At least top managers of the scientific-production association Almaz do not deny the possibility of holding relevant talks on the issue.”
At present the Russian anti-aircraft troops have been testing the surface-to-air missile system S-400 “Triumph”. After all the tests the Russian specialists will correct all defects and finalise necessary documentation. The test exploitation will last two years. After that the Russian industry will start equipping its anti-aircraft troops with S-400s.
