New electric energy tariff for the population is Br112,1/kWh

The new electric energy tariff for the population in Belarus equals Br112,1 per one kilowatt-hour. The new tariff has been effective since 1 January. The tariff equals Br81,2/kWh for people living in houses (apartments) equipped with electric ovens. By its resolution, the government has also set new prices for natural gas and heating energy for the population, a source in the office of the chief of staff of the Council of Ministers told BelTA. Under the resolution, the price for natural gas for people living in apartment houses, flats and in country houses equipped with individual gas gauges and heating devices running on natural gas has been set in the amount of Br141,6/kWh for the summer period and Br242/kWh for the winter period. For people living in houses and flats without individual gas gauges and equipped with gas ovens and centralized hot water supply has been fixed in the amount of Br1,936 per one resident a month. The tariff on energy used for heating and for providing the population with hot water supply has been increased since 1 January to Br36,355.5/Gcal. Thus, the tariffs on natural gas and electric energy for the population have gone up by 20% and tariffs for heating energy climbed by 12%. As a result, on average public utilities have become $5 more expensive. The rise in the prices has been driven by the increase in the cost of energy resources for Belarus in 2007.
