The National Library of Belarus handed over 1226 editions of the second half of the 19th century – beginning of the 20th century to the Gomel oblast museum of local lore for its exposition “Prince’s library”.
As BelTA was informed by head of the department of the history of the region in the post-Soviet period of the oblast museum of local lore Anna Kuzmich, the museum received historical and medical books, works of the Russian and foreign classics and journals. Most of the books are in Russian. Among the most valuable editions of 1861 is “Provision on peasants relieved from serfdom”.
The museums of the republic held such action for the first time. Thus, the exposition “Prince’s library” has been completed and now fully corresponds to the meaning implied by its title.
According to Anna Kuzmich, the exposition has already opened. Residents and guests of Gomel can see it. Moreover, they will have an opportunity to study books individually and more thoroughly.
