An exhibition of American photographer Kristina Brandel “From Love” was opened today in the Minsk Museum of Modern Arts. The project is timed to the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl catastrophe.
Speaking to BelTA, the artist said that the exhibition is a result of numerous trips to the exclusion zone for almost 13 years. “This place is like a vacuum. Houses waiting for their hosts to come back, deserted roads, things left behind. I tried to capture the atmosphere of desolate and uninhabited places as well as feelings they provoke”.
According to her, every time when she comes back to the village Sperizhje of the Bragin region of Gomel oblast her heart is filled with feelings which cannot be described. “I am a photograph which means that the God gave me a unique gift to see what other people cannot see,” she says.
The exposition features about 100 hand-printed black and white photos as well as some digital prints.
The exhibition will last till May 5.
