EurAsEC Customs Union to be formed in 2011

The Customs Union of the Eurasian Economic Community /EurAsEC/ will be formed by 2011, Belarus’ Vice Minister Andrei Kobyakov said after the EurAsEC summit in Dushanbe. According to him, in line with the plan of actions aimed at forming the EurAsEC Customs Union all the actions are to be fulfilled in 2007-2010. “And in 2010 – at the beginning of 2011 we will complete forming the EurAsEC Customs Union,” Andrei Kobyakov underlined. The adoption of a package of documents at the Dushanbe EurAsEC summit gives grounds that “we have been on the home straight towards forming the EurAsEC Customs Union”, said Andrei Kobyakov. Earlier the members of the Belarus-Russian Union State have repeatedly announced about the creation of the Customs Union within the framework of the Union State. The talks have been negotiated since 1995. However, real progress has been reached only now, Andrei Kobyakov underlined. According to Belarus’ Vice Premier, Belarus insists on early creation of the EurAsEC Customs Union. “The signing of documents concerning the creation of the Customs Union on October 6 in Dushanbe does not mean that we will awake in the Customs Union the next day”, Andrei Kobyakov underlined. However, the adoption of the plan of actions for 2007-2010 is a concrete and real step. It means the sides continue working on the problem and the work will be finally finished,” Andrei Kobyakov underlined. The participants of the Dushanbe summit expressed their will concerning the creation of the EurAsEC Customs Union. “Now we have to settle only technical aspects. We may do this wok in two years but to do this better we will need three years,” Andrei Kobyakov noted.
