Emergency workers, Red Cross to jointly liquidate chemical “emergency”

An exercise meant to practise response to an emergency at a chemical enterprise will take place in Svetlogorsk on June 28, 2006. The exercise will be held as part of the Belarusian Red Cross Society project “Building up Emergency Response Potential”. Representatives of the Belarusian Red Cross Society told BelTA, the emergency will be liquidated by units of Gomel region agency of the emergency ministry. The Red Cross officers will provide medical treatment and temporary residence to people affected by the man-caused emergency. Head of Minsk office of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Miro Modrusan, Belarus programme manager Valentina Sosnovaya, secretary general of the Belarusian Red Cross Society Viktor Kolbanov are expected to participate in the exercise. BelTA reference. The Red Cross is the oldest international charity organisation, which main purpose is alleviating the sufferings of people in times of peace and war. The Red Cross movement does not differentiate people according to their beliefs, castes, nationalities, or political views. The Belarusian Red Cross Society is the only national organisation of the Red Cross movement in Belarus. This voluntary nation-wide public association was founded on June 6, 1921. The organisation’s guiding principles are humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntariness, unity, universality, and publicity. The Belarusian Red Cross Society includes six regional organisations, Minsk city and road organisations, which unite 157 district, town, and node organisations. The number of primary organisations makes 7,755. Early this year there were 908,000 members of the Belarusian Red Cross Society in the country.
