Delegations from Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania to attend Gomel’s 865th anniversary celebrations

Official delegations from Gomel’s twin cities in Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania will take part in the celebrations in honour of the 865th anniversary of founding of Gomel. The celebrations dedicated to the Day of Gomel are scheduled for September 8-9. The largest delegation will come from Russian towns of Bryansk, Kursk and Murmansk, from St. Petersburg’ districts Vasilyevsky Ostrov and Kirovsky, as well as from Moscow oblast, BelTA was told in the ideology department of the Gomel town council. In addition, the Ukrainian delegations from Saki, Chernigov, Shchors and Donetsk and a delegation from the Latvian town Liepaya have confirmed their participation in the festive events. A reception in honour of official representatives from the twin cities of Gomel will be given on behalf of the Chairman of the Gomel town council Alexander Belyaev. Gomel is one of the oldest cities of Belarus. Gomel was first mentioned in the Ipatiy chronicle in 1142 as an estate of the Chernigov prince.
