Chernobyl committee to consider new program to minimize consequences of Chernobyl catastrophe

The final extended meeting of the Chernobyl committee will be held on January 24 in the children’s republican recuperation center “Zhdanovichi”, BelTA has been told in the press service of the Chernobyl committee. The meeting will sum up the results of the governmental program to minimize the consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe for 2001-2005. Chairman of the Chernobyl committee Vladimir Tsalko will make a speech at the meeting. Attending the meeting will be high-rank officials of the Council of Ministers, representatives of the state managerial bodies, the National Academy of Sciences, heads of different research and medical establishments of this republic and chairmen of the regional executive committees of Gomel, Mogilev and Brest oblasts which were worst affected by the Chernobyl catastrophe. According to the press service of the Chernobyl committee, more than Br1 trillion 900 billion has been allocated to implement the governmental program to mitigate the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster for 2001-2005. In 2006-2010 the program will focus on improving the living standards of the population and rehabilitating the contaminated areas.
