Control over the expenditure of state budget funds by Belarusian ministries, agencies and law enforcement bodies should be stepped up. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko gave the instruction on May 14, as Chairman of the State Control Committee Zenon Lomat delivered a report about the Committee’s performance over the first four months of the year, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA. Thanks to measures the State Control Committee has applied against offending economic agents, the state has earned around Br22.3 billion. The President underscored, the State Control Committee should reach better performance levels. The Committee’s personnel should be competent and should be on top of issues. The Committee widely uses the practice of total inspections of ministries and agencies. The President authorised carrying out an inspection of the State Customs Committee and its divisions in H2 2007. Performance of the real economy sector, in particular, sales of products made by cement mills, was touched upon during the meeting. According to Zenon Lomat, it has been verified that certain individual entrepreneurs buy cement from producers at factory prices to sell it at prices two-three times higher. Alexander Lukashenko demanded that the situation should be dealt with. In the near future the State Control Committee also plans to focus on the effective utilisation of state property, primarily, matters related to rental of premises.
