Belarus president needs MAZ to boost export, decrease production costs

Belarus president Alexander Lukashenko has charged the new head of Minsk Automobile Plant with boosting the company’s export, expanding the sales area and decreasing the production costs. Today the head of state approved the appointment of Nikolai Kosten as director general of Production Corporation BelavtoMAZ and director general of Minsk Automobile Plant. Asked by a BelTA reporter, Nikolai Kosten informed the press, effective measures are needed to prevent the rising energy prices from affecting the MAZ economic performance and keeping the company’s potential sizable in the Belarusian economy. According to Nikolai Kosten, Minsk Automobile Plant is one of the largest producers of heavy haulers, buses and trailers in Belarus and Europe. At present the company produces around 250 modifications of trucks, over 60 modifications of trolley buses, buses, and trailers. The company exports 75% of the turnout, with 65% of the figure shipped to the Russian Federation.
