Belarus’ overseas trade 22.3% up to $46.1bn in January-October

In January-October 2007, Belarus’ foreign trade in goods and services swelled by 22.3% up on the same period in 2006 to a total of $46.1 billion, the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis told BelTA. Over the period Belarus’ export increased by 19.7% to $22.1 billion while the import swelled by 24.8% to make up $24 billion. The foreign trade deficit amounted to $1,833.8 million, with the merchandise trade deficit as large as $2,776.9 million, the surplus of the foreign trade in services — $943.1 million. Export-import operations with intermediate goods (energy resources, raw stock, materials and components) accounted for the main part of the foreign trade deficit. In January-October 2007 Belarus imported $16.4 billion worth of intermediate goods (26.5% up) and exported $13.3 billion worth of intermediate goods (14.3% up). Due to higher energy prices the value of imported natural gas went up $860.2 million, oil — $746.9 million up on the same period of 2006. In January-October 2007 the merchandise trade reached $42 billion, with the export as large as $19.4 billion, import — $22.6 billion. In cost terms the merchandise export swelled by 17.9% up on the same period of 2006 in current prices, merchandise import — 24.6% up. According to the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis, over the ten months of 2007 the foreign trade in services amounted to $3.677 billion, 39.3% up on the same period of 2006. The export of services soared by 37.1% to a total of $2.48 billion, import — 44.1% up to $1.197 billion.
