MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Cuba are set to intensify inter-parliamentary cooperation, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said as he met with President of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba Juan Esteban Lazo Hernandez, BelTA reports.
According to him, Cuba plays a prominent role in such associations as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Latin American Parliament and the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement. “In this regard, I call for closer interaction between the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Eurasian Group at the Inter-Parliamentary Union. After all, the countries included in these two groups represent the interests of over 800 million people, or more than 10% of the world’s population. This cannot be disregarded. And our common position should be heard by representatives of other countries and regions, primarily Westerners and the United States,” noted Vladimir Andreichenko.
“It is true, we are small states, we do not shape world politics. But we have our own opinion, and by joining forces, our voice will sound louder,” the speaker emphasized. “We welcome the formation of renewed Cuba - Belarus friendship group at the National Assembly of People’s Power of the current convocation. This demonstrates a firm intention to strengthen our inter-parliamentary cooperation,” he added.
