Belarus amends university and vocational college entrance rules

Belarus has amended university and vocational college entrance rules. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed relevant decree #70 on February 8, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service. The decree determines equal conditions and reduces the application period for state-funded places and for fee-paying students. The inter-university examination on the subjects included into centralized testing has been abolished. The new rules cut the categories of entrants with the right to the out-of-competition enrollment. The privilege can be exercised by the orphans and children left without parental custody, winners and prize-holders of the international and national subject Olympiads, creative contests and festivals, sports competitions. Disabled children have the right to partake in the contest for distant or evening state-funded courses. Those seeking to get the professions requiring special skills have to pass a professional and psychological interview or testing in line with the procedures established by the Education Ministry. The new entrance rules define the criteria for the admission of the people seeking a second university diploma. Amendments and addenda also cover the enrollment of foreign students to Belarusian universities. The press service noted that the decree intends to improve university entrance rules and make the university entrance examinations campaign more unbiased.
