Iranian companies intend to implement several large-scale investment projects in Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Belarus Abdolhamid Fekri told a briefing on May 25 in Minsk.
Thus, Iranian businessmen are going to launch production of copper wire in Gomel oblast and they have already bought necessary equipment.
Pending are negotiations between the Iranian company Keyson and administration of the free economic zone Minsk on starting up an auto service. The investments in this project might amount to USD 100 million.
Iranian companies also study an issue on production of building materials in Belarus. Several negotiations with JSC Mozyrdrev were conducted. “There are some discrepancies in terms of the cost of the land lot for the future capacity yet we hope that they will be settled soon,” the ambassador noted. In case of the positive settlement, the investments are projected to reach EUR 100 million.
The Iran’s ambassador also took note of successful cooperation in the machine-building area. A reminder, Belarus has embarked on assembling Iranian cars Samand.
Abdolhamid Fekri said that during the April sitting of the joint Belarus-Iran commission on economic cooperation “many ideas on joint projects were voiced”. They are now being considered.
One more step to boost economic cooperation will be Iran’s national exhibition in Belarus which is set to be held in June 2006. A bit later Belarus will organize an analogous exhibition in Teheran.
