Alexander Lukashenko: I honestly served my nation

Alexander Lukashenko is convinced, his trump card at the forthcoming presidential elections will the absence of fear that he might lose. “I honestly served my nation and in this my power is,” he told Rossiyskaya Gazeta in an interview today. The head of state noted, during his presidency he had seen nothing but work. “From my personal point of view, I should have quitted in my time like a sportsman. But on the other hand, the elite would understand at once and the nation would feel that I ran away. I should not do so. If people elect me, I will work just as hard and even harder because I will feel the confidence of the Belarusian people, I will feel that the people respect me”, Alexander Lukashenko said. Referring to the elections schedule, the president stressed that “the Belarusian parliament set the time-table according to the Constitution”. Here Alexander Lukashenko confessed he favored the political campaign to be held in July. “It would be great from the point of view of elections technologies, - he explained. – But March is a freer period. There is a need to end all this fuss and get down to real thing – economy, what the people appreciate us for”. Commenting on the statements of the so-called Belarusian opposition that it is not ready for the presidential elections, the head of state asked: “What have you been doing these five years? You have talked about the elections all the time. You should have read the Constitution, the elections can be held in March”. “They are not ready to rule the country”, the president came to a conclusion. At the same time the head of state added that the elections and other events for the so-called opposition is an opportunity to profit. “It is their business. The resource is the West, some Russian oligarchs, Ukraine, the Baltic countries and Poland”, Alexander Lukashenko stated.
