Belarus will change the nature of financing the agricultural industry, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said during his working trip to the Grodno oblast, BelTA was told in the Belarusian leader’s press service.
Alexander Lukashenko stressed the need to enhance economic efficiency of the Belarusian agricultural companies and demanded that the village revival programme be strictly implemented. In the near future the funds which are allocated for the agricultural industry will be concentrated on implementing this important document.
Belarus also plans to cut on the subsidies to the agricultural companies. The issues relating to the state subsidies should be tightly controlled, said Alexander Lukashenko. Starting from 2008 the Government will cover only 50% of the expenses agricultural companies incur. In a year these companies should become financially effective. The Government will allocate funds to implement only highly remunerative and worthwhile projects, the Belarusian leader noted.
According to the experts, 20-25% of successful companies can do without any subsidies. Belarus should also raise farming standards, the President noted.
More attention will be paid to the cultivation of wheat which is less prone to lodging than other crops, said the Belarusian leader.
According to the Belarusian Head of State, Belarus should also amend the village revival programme to step up the production of corn grain. According to him, in the near future Belarus should annually harvest 8 million tons of grain including 1 million tons of corn grain. Agricultural companies should be provided with all necessary implements for combine harvesters to boost the production, the Belarusian leader underlined.
