Agricultural companies of Belarus harvest about 200 thousand tons of grain

Virtually all regions of the republic have started a harvesting campaign. Only ripe crops are harvested. As a BelTA correspondent was informed by chief of the plant cultivation department of the ministry of agriculture and foodstuffs of this republic Vladimir Kuratnik, grain crops were harvested on 74 thousand hectares or three per cent of the total area. Tonight the agricultural companies of Belarus are expected to harvest five per cent of the area under crops; it means a mass harvesting camping will start. Yesterday about grain crops on 20 thousand hectares were harvested or one per cent of the total area. Brest oblast shows the highest indices – 2,5 per cent of the area a day. Gomel region – about one per cent. According to the source, about 200 thousand tons of grain have already been harvested including 104 thousand tons – by Brest oblast. Agricultural organizations of Grodno oblast harvested almost 60 thousand tons, Minsk oblast – 33 thousand. The average crop capacity makes 27,4 centners per hectare in the republic or 2,7 centners less than in 2005. According to the estimates of the experts of the ministry of agriculture and foodstuffs, the crop capacity is expected to grow as soon as the number of agricultural companies involved in the campaign increases. At present laid and burned fields are harvested. The highest crop capacity was registered in Grodno oblast – 35 centners per hectare and in Minsk oblast – 33 centners. The crop capacity in Vitebsk and Mogilev oblasts (28 centners) is higher than the average one in the republic. Vladimir Kuratnik has noted that at present 37,5 thousand hectares under rape have been harvested or a bit more than a half of the total area under rape. Some 59 thousand tons of rapeseeds were threshed; the average crop capacity makes 16 centners per hectare. Flax-pulling has started as well. This work was done on seven thousand hectares or 9.3 per cent of the area under flax. About 72 thousand hectares of the area under crops have been treated with special reagents to protect them from diseases.
