Gomel hits all five-year education targets

In last five years Gomel fulfilled all education tasks, member of the Chamber of Representatives of the National Assembly Larisa Kuznetsova told BelTA. Larisa Kuznetsova will represent Gomel region at the 3rd All-Belarus People's Congress. Earlier Larisa Kuznetsova was the head of the Gomel city education department. In 2005 alone preschool educational establishments of Gomel region agro-towns opened 7 deep study groups (ecology, physical culture, ethnography and others), 5 gymnasiums, 2 lyceum and 3 profile education forms were opened. At present 74 per cent of Gomel region educational establishments have access to the Internet. A corporate computer network unites 115 remote clients, e-mail messaging is available. Besides, in Gomel district village schools have media centres where computers, TV sets, modern projectors and DVD players are available. The media centres are used for teachers and students to learn more while studying new multimedia technologies. So far in the education field Belarus excels even neighbouring Russia in many aspects. The MP noted, even Russian experts recognise it. For example, Oleg Cherkovets, Doctor of Economic Science, professor of Moscow state university named after Lomonosov, who studies international economic relation problems of the CIS states, published results of his research under the title "Belarusian Breakthrough". However, Larisa Kuznetsova believes, it is important to go ahead. At present the state spends around 6 per cent of the gross domestic product on education. In Russia the figure makes 4.8 per cent. In the future in line with the Education Law annual education expenditure will be increased. The MP hopes, the issue will be addressed at the All-Belarus People's Congress.
