MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) - Sugar beet has been planted on 84.4% of the designated area in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.
Spring crops were sown on 1,268,900 hectares, which is 53.6% of the plan. Early spring grain and leguminous crops (excluding maize, buckwheat and millet) were planted on an area of 567,000 hectares, which is 92.1% of the target.

Flax has been sown on 55.6% of the designated area in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

Planting in Belarus is to be completed by 9 May, Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Vladimir Grakun said at a press conference, BelTA has learned.
Vladimir Grakun specified that agricultural workers will try to complete the spring sowing of early grain and leguminous crops within the next seven days, and the southern regions will finish this work by the end of the week. Belarus’ population equaled 9,155,978 people as of 1 January 2024, the National Statistics Committee told BelTA.
In 2023 Belarus was home to 9,200,617 people. This is why the population dropped by 44,639 people last year. Minsk was home to 1,992,862 people as of 1 January 2024, down from 1,995,471 people in 2023.

As of 20:00 the voter turnout at the parliamentary and local elections in Belarus made up 72.98%, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Igor Karpenko at a press conference in the CEC press center.
