Sergei Zabolotets: new program of Belarus’ development aims to improve quality of life

9 March 2006
According to deputy chairman of the Chamber of Representatives Sergei Zabolotets, the draft guidelines of socio-economic development of Belarus for the next five years are a well-thought scenario how to improve the living standards of people. “The program places a special emphasis on social justice so that every person should be aware of the support on the part of the government”, he said in an interview to a BelTA correspondent. The model of further reforms in economic and social spheres proposed by the government confirms the consistent and well-balanced state policy, the vice-speaker believes. The goals set out in the program are “clear guidelines relying on the economic growth of the country”. An emphasis on the innovation path of economic development and strengthening of competitive positions of Belarusian producers-exporters is in sync with the world tendencies. This would stimulate the productions making high-quality goods which are in great demand on the market. There are quite a few such productions in the country. Sergei Zabolotets cited the production “BelavtoMAZ” which has gained popularity not only among the former Soviet Union nations but in many other countries. Every year it boosts production, raises competitiveness. “Russian MPs, local authorities and administrations evaluate highly the coaches and other vehicles made at the Minsk plant,” Sergei Zabolotets noted. “The step-by-step startup of new production facilities meeting Euro-3,-4 and -5 standards will propel the company to new markets”. The politician emphasized that the state is interested in sustainable development of entrepreneurship. Formation of “quality legal base to suit this sector will be in the spotlight”. During the spring session deputies plan to consider a new draft law on support of small and medium entrepreneurship. According to Sergei Zabolotets, education, healthcare and housing construction are other priority spheres. “We will take serious steps in pursuance of the idea of creating a state for people,” the deputy said.
