Projects on corn seed production prove effective
25 April 2006
The projects on developing the corn seed production in Gomel oblast have proved effective. When visiting the agricultural cooperative “Druzhba-Avtiuki” in the Kalinkovichi region, the president was informed that the corn-calibrating facility in Mozyr has been operating effectively and efficiently. Last year it produced about 8 thosuand tons of corn seeds which were then sold to other oblasts of Belarus. Russia is ready to buy this product considering its good quality and low price.
The president stressed there is a need to study the demand for corn seeds on the Russian and other neighboring markets to expand the production if necessary.
The goal is set out to ramp up corn seed production up to 10 thousand tons to satisfy the needs of Belarusian agricultural producers. The matter concerns the seeds of the corn to be grown for fodder.
Belarusian scientists are sure that in 2 or 3 years this country will be able to refuse from corn seeds imports owing to the potential of the Belarusian science in plant growing and seed-farming and also cutting-edge technologies.
