No less than 76 per cent of the Belarusian electorate is ready to support effective president Alexander Lukashenko at the forthcoming election, director of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Georgiy Evelkin told reporters.
Referring to the chances of other nominees for the presidency, Mr. Evelkin has recommended them “not to flatter themselves as to the quantity of votes they hope to get”. The rating of political parties is at the level of statistical error (3-4 per cent), the same as the level of confidence of the society in the opposition.
Such results, according to him, are based on the sociological research held by the Institute in 2002-2005. The latest research, carried out at the end of 2005 was the most large-scale in Belarus within the recent four years. For the first time on record more than nine thousand people took part in the research. That allowed to get the data about the mood and opinions of people from all strata of the Belarusian society in both tows and villages, the scientist noted. He has stressed that the results show that the absolute majority of the Belarusians positively assess their living conditions.
