Manjushaka theater to play four regions of Gomel oblast
24 March 2006
A Japanese theater Manjushaka will stage charity performances in four regions of Gomel oblast in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl catastrophe, the press-service of the oblast executive committee told BelTA.
Today the company will stage two performances in Chechersk House of Culture, on March 25 the Japanese masters will play Gomel. After this the theater will visit Buda-Koshelev and Bragin.
The Japanese theater is recognized and appreciated not only at home in Japan but also in other countries including Belarus. The performances feature colorful costly costumes; every element of the program gives the audience a unique opportunity to plunge into secrets of Japanese legends and customs, while interpretations of traditional heroes are quite unexpected at times.
The name of the theatre - “Manjushaka” - is translated from Japanese as a while flower which is blossoming out in the skies. There is a legend in Japan that the one who sees the flower will forever lose a desire to do harm. This is why love, friendship and admiration are the feelings that reign in the air during the Majushaka performances. It was that kind of art that Mother Teresa blessed the theatre for back in 1995. Following that meeting the company switched to charity performances only.
