Ivan Bambiza: Belarus may grow into grain exporter

21 September 2007
Belarus may grow into a grain exporter, Deputy Prime Minister Ivan Bambiza said today at an opening ceremony of the national harvest festival “Dazhynki-2007”. Four years of the successful performance of Belarus’ agricultural industry and this year’s harvesting results give grounds for such statements. As of September 1, 2007 Belarus harvested 7 million 435 thousand tonnes of grain, up by 900 thousand tonnes on 2006. At present Belarusian agricultural companies continue harvesting corn. Bearing in mind this crop the gross yield is expected to exceed the one reached in the most productive year of 2004. “Belarus’ agricultural industry is stably and dynamically growing up ensuring the food security of the country. Putting the agricultural sector on the intensive development-based tracks is a peculiar feature of today’s agricultural industry,” said Ivan Bambiza.
