Government passes “Belarusian roads” program for 2006-2015

“The government passed the “Belarusian roads” program for 2006-2015. The Council of Ministers signed a corresponding resolution on April 6”, head of the Belavtodor road network development department Vladimir Mardilovich has informed today at a press-conference.
He noted that the draft program was considered by the government in January 2006 and was finalized in March.
The document envisages major reconstruction of the roads which are part of international passages to boost their capasities and make them available for vehicles with single axle load under 11.5 tons, what meets international standards. Besides, the program envisages major revamping of the roads connecting Minsk with oblast centers. For instance, Mogilev highway will have 4 driving lanes, Gomel road between Cherven and Bobruisk will meet first category requirements.
Great attention is also paid to the improvement of rural roads. According to the state village revival program it is planned to establish transport connections between region centers and agro towns, as well as between agro towns and other population centers by constructing asphalt carpet roads by 2010.
The total amount of program’s financing equals Br23 billion.
