Chechersk region to launch two new UNICEF projects

This year the Chechersk region of Gomel oblast will launch two new projects under the auspices of the UNICEF. The international organization intends to assign more than EUR 14 thousand for their realization.
The projects were developed within the framework of the CORE program “Cooperation for Rehabilitation” of living conditions of the Chernobyl affected areas. According to Lana Melnikova, the CORE program’s assistant in the Chechersk region, the matter concerns the development of sport and recuperation facilities. The UNICEF announced an intention to support the project on setting up children’s sports grounds, a free-style wrestling club and a healthy lifestyle information center in the village of Otor. The international organization also intends to finance the project “Cheery Musician” to recuperate disabled children by means of creative therapy.
According to Lana Melnikova, today the projects are being registered. They will be launched in H2 2007.
Lana Melnikova noted that the CORE program has been implemented in the region since 2004. As of today, 9 projects have been already finished. Three of them are at the stage of implementation, three more – are being registered and 11 projects are being considered by partners-donors, the specialist added.
