12 April 2006
BelTA correspondents in Mogilev and Gomel oblasts Oleg Foinitskiy and Sergei Kholodilin have been given special awards at the republican contest “Life in Defiance of Chernobyl”. The awarding ceremony was held at the public press-center of the House of Press in Minsk.
Timed to the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl catastrophe, the contest featured journalists of the printed mass media and photo correspondents. It was organized by the information ministry and the Chernobyl committee.
The contest witnessed 32 participants from republican, regional newspapers and freelancers.
Presenting the awards, first deputy information minister, chairman of the jury Lilia Ananich said that regional newspapers took an active part in the contest. “It is good that the materials are optimistic, that they show the attention of the state to the problems of the people who live in the affected regions. All the pictures reveal that people in the affected areas do not actually survive – they live full lives in defiance of Chernobyl”, Lilia Ananich said.
1st and 2nd class diplomas of the information ministry and prize money were presented today to the newspapers Zvyazda and Dnyaprovets (the town of Rechitsa, Gomel oblast).
