Belarus president promises aid to Chernobyl-affected territories

26 April 2006
The state will continue giving aid to Chernobyl-affected areas, but it will not maintain them, Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko said while talking to workers of Komarinskiy collective farm of Bragin district and local residents. "We will use the example set by your enterprise to teach others the way to work well. It is a good example for others," said the head of state. Next year Komarinskiy collective farm will be used as the basis for setting up an agro-town, where all conditions necessary for the comfortable life of rural residents will be created. The local residents addressed the president with a request to assist in staffing the local hospital. Alexander Lukashenko ordered to clarify the matter and do what is necessary for the rural residents to get the required medical assistance on site.
