Belarus president: hospitals should be built to meet local needs

26 April 2006
New hospitals for every population centre should be built taking into account the existing local needs, Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko said while visiting Bragin district central hospital. According to the head of state, hospital construction should use individual approach (number of storeys, area and number of divisions). While at the hospital the head of state's attention was centred on specialised medical aid to Chernobyl-affected population and staffing of medical establishments of the district. The Belarusian leader visited the children department and the intensive care unit of the surgery department. On behalf of the president a DVD player and a TV set were presented to the hospital. The hospital's head physician Anatoliy Rysyuk told BelTA, the hospital was built in 2002. At present it has five departments: therapeutic department, surgical department, gynaecological department, maternity department, and children department. This year in line with the medical equipment programme the district hospital was remodelled with modern equipment and life support systems. Around USD 200 million was spent on the purpose. The hospital has equipment for conference communication. Using the equipment, the local medics can consult with specialists of Gomel State Medical University about diagnostics and treatment of patients.
