Belarus calls for ECOSOC to enhance support of transition economies

31 October 2007
At the session of the UN General Assembly the delegation of Belarus pointed to the necessity to enhance the target support of transition economies by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), BelTA learnt in the permanent representative office of Belarus at the United Nations. During the plenary session of the General Assembly highlighting the ECOSOC annual report the Belarusian delegation urged the UN Economic and Social Council to boost technical aid to transition economies so that they were able to formulate independent economic policies and their own development strategies. The Belarusian party hoped that the ministerial declaration passed at the ECOSOC main session would provide guidance for all the UN member states in simplifying the access of developing countries and transition economies to markets of industrially developed countries. In 2006, Belarus was elected ECOSOC member for 2007-2009.
